  • What's this extra widget on the rev pod ?

I picked up a clock + rev pod combo off of ebay, clock works great, the rev gauge I wasn't expecting to go as I hear it needs to be activated on the car first .. but, looking at what I have and what I see on the FQ101 website I'm wondering if I have the correct rev pod.

On the end of the cable is a PCB (all wrapped up so I don't know what is inside) which then has another connector on a cable coming out of it .. see the picture below :

Have I got the right rev pod for a 2006 Smart ForTwo (450 Pulse) ?

I promise I'll be in a position to answer questions rather than just ask them sometime in the next 12 months :-)

    Thanks!

Sorry can't see the pictures you post. Are you using a host site, like photobucket or just linking to your computer? What ever it ain't working.

Have a look here http://www.evilution.co.uk/index.php?menu=info&mod=462 it might help.

That's odd .. I'm just uploading the photos to this site and then putting the link into the forum post .. should work should't it ?

But that link you said is exactly what I was asking about .. sounds like it is fine to just take it out then :-)

Guess I best see if the NZ Mercedes service shops comprehend how to enable the rev counter!

The PCB is an interference device that Smart fitted to the earlier smarts because they feared that interference would make the rev counter read incorrectly, so they added that to stop it. However they later discovered it did absolutely nothing so they omitted it from later smarts. You dont need it and you can unplug it and just plug it into the Speedo if you want but it will also work with it as is.

In fact you SHOULD unplug and bin the interference module as it's known to cause issues and make the rev counter erratic - or in some cases stop it working entirely.
