  • smoky 2001 fourtwo

hi all, im new to smarts.. learning lots through reading..
ive just picked up a 2001 y reg 599cc , has recipts for a head job at time in the past and a new turbo. has only done 41k miles.

the main problem it is smokes very heavy.. like 20 seconds after start up...
to me it would point to the turbo.. but supposed to have a recent one.
ive yet to do a compression check to see if any cylinder probs.. although seems like to much smoke for just worn rings..

any other trees to bark up ???

    cheers John.

What colour is the smoke? Is there a crack on the manifold of the turbo?

Check the coolant levels and see if there is any emulsification of the oil (checking underneath the oil cap should be enough). Ultimately, sounds like it could be a blown head gasket (reference: http://www.fq101.co.uk/2-uncategorised/89-faq)

It is possible to be from crancase breather valve . http://www.fq101.co.uk/how-to-guides...-breather.html
The result of the defective valve is excessive oil consumption.
Inappropriate quality oil generates the same effect.
Old, polluted oil, etc., also works.

                Check the oil level!
Visually inspect the oil quality - water pollution.
Check for bubble gas in the antifreeze expansion tank.
