I took my Smart Fortwo 54 reg for a service today...apparently it needed a new sump pan and they charged me £56 plus vat... sounds pricey to me?

Sealant was an extra £6 and allegedly no charge to fit....
I bought a sump pan for a smart roadster from https://www.energizedcustoms.co.uk/shop/ in May 2016 for £28.95 inc vat.Last edited by Lucy; 10-01-18, 09:38 PM.

Perhaps you should better look after your sumps. Mine is original and from 2002. Car, a 450 Cabrio Cdi, has done 231,000 +.
Thanks.... its difficult to know if one is being overcharged or not... its a new to me Smart Fortwo which is why Ive had it serviced in order to 'look after' it.

I have coated my sump in Body Schutz bitumen. Main reason for our sumps failing is rust. The bitumen self heals but will require occasional touch up.
Here is photo of my sump after two years in service since being coated:
Note towel rail heater inserted into sump from left side. Keeps oil and engine warm on cold wintry days. Draws 150 Watts maximum. Self regulates as PTC heater.
