  • Composite sump

The engine in my fortwo was rebuilt some 7000 miles ago and they used the composite sump with a rubber gasket but I have found it to be leaking I've tried tightening the bolts which has worked a bit by slowing the leak down but it's still leaking, would I be able to re-use the rubber gasket iff I remove and clean the surfaces or just buy another one,iff so are all the rubber gaskets the same ie for metal and composite sumps
    thanks in advance steve

I expect you will find some old gasket on the mating surface.

Hopefully not as the rebuild was done by a very reputable smart garage

Heat rubber gasket in piping hot water and it should regain its original shape. Clean mating surfaces and refit. Use gasket sealant if in doubt.

Rubber gasket has to be fitted dry - no grease or sealant. If using sealant, dispense with the gasket.
