Hi I've been looking at secondhand steering columns and the 451 type look very similar to the 450 type are they the same? the only difference i have seen is that the 451 type has no indicator cancelling ring? Thanks.

They look alike but have different part numbers. Why replace steering column? Stiff lower UJ? Better to renew UJ. Only 10 Euro. Febest AST-1539. https://shop.febest.eu/catalogsearch/result/?q=AST-1539

My lower UJ was rather stiff a couple of years back:

Not much grease left inside the cups. Just dirt and rust. No wonder it was stiff.

    Quick and easy job. http://www.smartz.co.uk/showthread.p...k-damper/page2

UJ is worn, there is play in the UJ. Didn't know you could get a replacement UJ, I'll try repairing it, thanks.

UJ from some older BMW's steering column will fit as well - they are 40x15 mm and fit like a glove I had a spare lower joint from my old e46 so just cut it with angle grinder, cleaned, packed with grease and fitted to my 450 - works like a charm
