  • Clutch biting point

Hi, my smart 450 seems to have a banging / jerky / juddery clutch when setting off slowly at lights or reversing. As soon as you touch the accelerator pedal slightly it wants to go

It seems to be doing it since I had a flat battery the other day

    Thanks

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect as cleanly as you can (avoid sparking).

This forum is on its last leg so I suggest you either go to Smartz, thesmartclub or clubsmartcar.

Your problem appears similar to what mine had in 2007. Clutch releases with a bang causing the wee smart to jump forward and engine often stopping.
Cause on mine was chafed cables to clutch actuator. Can also be caused by stiff clutch actuator.
