Hi everyone, The forum seems really helpful so would like some advice before I collect car next week, it's a late 57 plate 451 pulse in black, really good condition and 25k on clock full mercedes service history. I'm really concerned over reading reports of problems with MHD? What should I be looking for before with work on car etc??? Thanks in advance for any help. Tom

If you are looking at an MHD, cancel.
There are no fixes available to sort the issue of the belt snapping.
Smart are on fix number 4 now and that doesn't work either.

There is never any good reason to buy a non turbo smart.
If you want good MPG, get the diesel, if you want something that's nippy, get the turbo.
The non turbo and MHD are soleless, slow, unreliable (MHD) and worse on fuel tham the turbo model.

Yes Stick to either the Petrol turbo version (around 45MPG to 55MPG) or the Diesel Cdi version. (around 80MPG).

Only downside of the Cdi (which I have), is that it is not really a city car, and must be driven on long roads occasionally at higher speeds to burn the soot out of the DPF filter. So if you do long runs then it would suit you.

Don't do it, here is one I borrowed and even the official Smart dealer reluctantly agreed they had major issues

Sorry Tommygun10. I was shopping for a replacement in November and my specialist garage (S2 Smarts of Watford) said, "Whatever you do - don't get an MHD." One official Benz garage quietly agreed another pretended not to know.

How many miles have you done in it?

Walk away. Don't buy it. Unless you are in the market for a car that might leave you with an engine-sized paperweight at any moment.

I can only echo what has already been said. I have the turbo and am very happy with its performance. get around 44mpg average. I almost bought an MHD, but have read so many horror stories that I'm glad I didn't!
