Hi need help with this one ,having problems with the car selecting drive, gears are selected on display but car wont go into drive,decided to remove clutch actuator for inspection and see if the shaft had snapped (it has not) now coming to refit it the shaft it is fully extended and no way will this go into the housing,looking at pictures of new actuators they seem to be fully retracted is this part of my problem and do i need a new actuator. Thanks Chris

The actuator extends when ignition is switched on, and retracts when ignition is switched off.
The latter is assuming that the actuator is in its normal place so that the spring action from the clutch
is adding to the force of the electric motor. In your case where the clutch force is not present, you
need to make up for the missing force by pushing the shaft against something while someone
switches the ignition off.
