  • ForTwo Extended Warranty

I am planning on buying a 2013 Smart ForTwo MHD (Which I know has had some problems from reading this forum) and it only has 2 years manufacturers warranty. The finance deal I am going for will last 3 years. I do not want to be caught out with that MHD fault in the last year as that would be a real problem.

Just had a look and that warranty can be extended for £240 for the last 12 months. Is this the same as the 2 year warranty in terms of coverage? Will it also include Smart Breakdown Assistance?

Another option for me to consider is just trading it in at the 2 year mark and putting a little extra towards a brand new model.

Any information / advice would be much appreciated!

On the forfour we had manufacturers warranty extension to 4years if serviced at merc/smart

Unless it states its manufacturers warranty I would say its just an insurance policy. £240 is a good price though.

Just check what is excluded and who the provider is.

Right. So I have dug a little deeper and come up with this: http://www.easier.com/80227-online-warranty-smart.html

      Coupled with this: http://uk.smart.com/information-serv...d-31e7d9d00ea9

So basically it states it "starts" at £20 a month - Which is where I got the £240 figure from. There doesn't seem to be much information about this but when I go down in a few weeks to sign the paperwork I will certainly put this to the dealer first. I might even be able to get a good deal if I state I want the extended warranty this early in the game...

I will also add that Warranty Direct will be around £330 for 1 year with Franchised Dealer repairs for their "Best Cover".

Regardless, the money I am saving on tax / insurance / fuel more than covers the deficit of 1 years warranty so I guess I can be thankful for that.

Still looking forward to getting my first Smart!

Warranty may not be your biggest concern with the MHD, unless you stop immediately when the belt fails, smart may not cover it anyway.

          I'd go for the diesel!

Unfortunately the deal I am going for is only for the MHD so that's not an option. I'll have to take my chances and be sure to do the right thing should anything go amiss.

Hopefully this won't happen though as it should have some of these fixes applied that have been mentioned.

I also won't be using the stop start feature (I get the feeling this is what may be causing the problem) since I am much in favour of using the handbrake (And I don't like the idea anyway).

I had a Bluemotion Golf with the feature and always turned it off on start up.

The stop start doesn't affect the belt problem (for which a successful fix hasn't been issued), but it should save the battery if you turn it off. Nice to see someone not being an asshole and using the handbrake!

                  Money?

Yeah. Brake lights seems to be getting bigger and brighter too - If anything that is more reason for people to not sit on them whilst waiting at lights as the cost of replacement will be bigger too.
