Still got a minor roof problem

Over the years I have learnt that keeping the runners on the roof as clean as possible is the best way to keep it running but its finding it a little hard to shut the roof and needs a bit of help sometimes is there anything that needs replacing or does the strength of the motor go as it gets older? I put the roof up and down a lot and want it to work as it should, I did think about furniture polish but again its going to be sticky and attract dust making it worse. Any ideas
