Wipers not stopping fixed

Hi, after sorting out various problems on my roady, I come to use the wipers and they wouldn't turn off unless the ignition was turned off. I took the motor & linkage out all nice and dry then I removed the wiper stalk and took it apart cleaned the contacts and put it back, there was no change. I decided to disconnect the stalk then disconnected the battery. I then made sure the stalk was in the off position reconnected it then connected the battery. Bingo it worked. Hope this helps someone.
