Smart radio / Navigation system

Hello
I have a 2011 smart fortwo passion. the Radio / navigation system keeps rebooting and is in a loop
I get the Smart logo for 30 seconds, the screen goes blank then the Smart logo re-appears.
I hoped to get to the restore factory settings screen but I cannot progress past the opening smart screen
Can any one advise how I get out of this loop?

Had you done anything prior to this happening?
During my experimenting with the Highline unit I managed to get it doing exactly this when I tried interrupting the update with injected code, essentially damaging a lot of the info in the memory.
Running the software update fixed it.

Find a decent smart dealer in your area and ask them to perform the software update. Providing they know what you are talking about (most don't), it should fix it.

Do you know your current software version number or your serial number?

Hello and thanks for the reply
The unit performed fine when I purchased the car.
All the problems started when I deleted the past owners phones and stored numbers
Initially I received messages saying trying to connect with BT which seemed to freeze the unit. Eventually we had to switch off the system
I only deleted details in the two contact files as per the manuals instructions.
I have restored to factory settings which seemed to help but we still have problems intermittently
I will access the serial number and version number tomorrow
I have read other threads which suggest a software update would help. Do I need a main dealer for this?
I am pretty sure it is not a hardware issue as occasionally it will work immediately the ignition is on for the entire journey.
Other times it goes straight into the reboot loop

I have taken the car to a smart dealer in Northampton who claim to have updated the software
If anything it is now worse
I spoke to a helpful Bosch radio specialist in Shrewsbury who after hearing the symptoms confirmed it is software - They think my deleting of contacts has also deleted operating data inadvertently
The software can only be loaded by a Mercedes / smart dealer as there are no discs for my system.
How can I make sure the Mercedes dealer I choose next is up to date?
Northampton were more interested in selling me other services
Any recomendations
