  • Gearbox replacement - ForFour 1.1

    Hi

Can anyone advise if you need to remove the engine to replace the gearbox. My ForFour needs a new gerabox and any comments/guidance would be appreciated.

No you don't. Remove driveshafts, remove air box, inlet pipes, gear change lever on the top of the gearbox. Prop the engine as one of the engine mounts attaches to the gearbox from what I recall, remove the engine mount from that side. Remove bolts all around the gearbox and it should drop out of the car. Ideally you'll need to brace it to lower it out but if it's knackered, meh.
Watch out though, the gearbox is heavy.
