2008 451 wont start and 3 lines on the dash

Hi guys, I'm after some help.

My car won't even try and start and also the dash board has the 3 lines on it.
I've had the brake light switch changed and still no joy.

There's some sort of gearbox issue with it but don't want to throw loads of new parts at it or guess what's wrong with it.

I wouldn't of expected this so soon on a 4year old car.

Any help greatly appriciated as I need it fixed ASAP.

It'll be the actuator or the gear change motor. Neither are cheap on a 451 though.

Hi mark, is there any way of testing these items on or off the car?
The car drove fine the day before but the next day won't even start and the lines on the dash.

I would of thought the car would still start up or does it go into a limp mode?

Hi, what part would you say it would be. Either the motor or the actuator?

What's the price for the parts please.

Also is it normal where it won't even turn over or start. It's like its in limp mode

It's probably not starting because it's not in neutral. Limp mode isn't gear related.

Have you had the codes read? Obviously you can't drive it, but fudgesmart are mobile and could possibly identify the part from the code to save you replacing parts unnecessarily.

Hiya thanks for your reply. My scanner at work doesnt seem to read the smart car. I'll try another scanner in the week with some luck.

I noticed the clutch actuator doesn't move in or out when you switch the ignition on. Is that normal?

Forget the scanner, unless it's a proper Star machine, the info you get out of it won't be worth s***.

It's not a star machine no. I take it thats the dealership one. I think The guy I brought it off said an error code of p1752. If I heard him correctly.

I'll have to take a look at it next week in the workshop

Think it was the position actuator.ill have to have a look as I wrote it down somewhere

When you turn on the ignition should the clutch actuator move? My ones doesn't move at all if I switch ignition on

Yes it should move.
Have you checked your fuses ?
Have you done a battery reset ?

found out what it is. i need a replacement clutch actuator. the motor spline has craked. I had it apart this morning.

£500 from a dealer..! thats expensive!! any secondhand ones anywhere??

You can get it for £404 by buying it from Andrew Page who got it directly from the manufacturer SACHS in Germany. Oddly enough, I had to replace mine recently not because the motor spline (you mean the worm drive gear?) went but because the spring inside the actuator had lost, erm, it's springiness. The motor itself is still ok and could, I believe, be taken off the actuator and used to fix yours... if you're interested in taking mine off my hands for a resonable sum, PM me and make me an offer! The problem you have seems to be fairly well known and was suggested to me to be down to design or manufacturing defects...
