  • Oh My Gawd!!

    DVLA!! Arghhhhhhhhhh!

So I purchased my Smart ForTwo from Scotland and to register the vehicle in Northern Ireland I was sent a letter from DVLA asking for V5, V10 and tax disc to prove it was taxed blah blah blah...

So sent all off and waited...

I've now received another STANDARD letter along with the V5 and the V10 I had returned as requested...MINUS MY BLOODY TAX DISC!

Tried calling them yesterday and this morning and can't get through due to their high call volumes! I wonder why!?!

The letter is just asking for the same stuff again...so it's looking likely that they've lost my tax disc!!

Now I'm going to have to make the trip down to their offices. But what happens now if they've lost my tax disc? It's only £30 to replace it but why should I be out of pocket for THEIR incompetence!?!

Anyone else had any experience of this?

    Cheers

    Re: Oh My Gawd!!

Sounds like typical DVLA, do you have any evidence that you sent the tax disc? Was the letter recorded, did you take a pic of it before you sent it??

They lost my counterpart driving licence once, I sent both parts off for change of address and got a letter back enclosing the card asking for the paper copy. I eventually got a replacement out of them so all is not lost. I think I did send mine recorded though.

They can easily check their records and see that Road Tax is active on the car. Once you've got through to somebody (or gone in person) they should send you a replacement. But as MrPoo suggests, sending it recorded delivery is a good idea.

I'm very surprised they asked for the disc in the first place.

I was going to send it by recorded delivery but then I thought ach it should be alright! And I've no evidence that I did send it. Big mistake eh.

I don't see why they needed it either to be honest. Surely they can check the database I thought. Seemingly not it seems. It would appear that even though NI are meant to be part of GB, it is it's own little poop hole!

Thanks for replying. If alls lost, it's only £30 but it's just the principle of it. Still can't get through today. So I'm going down tomorrow and I ain't a happy bunny, but I know that I'll be all sweetness and light because I just don't like being rude to people
