  • Omg!!!

I was recently at a mate's retirement party and a friend told me that he'd seen a transporter loaded with Smart ForTwo's being delivered to our local recycling centre and that most of them were green and white - at the time I didn't give it a second thought.

Yesterday I popped in to get a part worn tyre from the same place and met an ex-pupil of mine, from the good old days when I went out to work for a living. He has worked there for a number of years and we got talking about Smart cars and what I'd been told peviously turns out to be true.

They've got loads in for re-cycling and about 50 of them are electric - but none of them have motors in them.

The attached list shows their current stock and the ones with the "?" in the column for engine size are or were electric ones.

That's a lot of cars for breaking. Are they selling bits or whole cars?

Presumably they're the previous generation prototype electric cars?

The lad did say that they had been protoypes or test vehicles.

It's a shame that regulations at these places are so tight nowadays or I'd maybe be able to get a photo or two.

It's also frustrating to know how many good good panels and other no-longer-made parts will go in the crusher.

i belive i know a little about these cars, they were a "project" between ? and Smart, they were the forerunner of the electric smart we all know, Smart invested a fortune in giving ? the completer cars with engines gearboxes, infact complete cars and they were then dis-assembled, engines are floating around somewhere, and started to be fitted with electric motors, then for whatever reason Smart pulled out, and game over, I dont know who "?" is though.
