  • Dash cam

    Hi, guys

I am looking for a dash cam that suits itself alas plug it in, start it up, and then forget all about it until you need to look at what just happened.

In the chase I have found 'cycled recording' and 'motion detection' being key words..

Tips on where to look for the right thingymabob are most welcome

      Re: Dash cam

there are a number of apps for smart phones that also do this.

just mount and open the app and it does a rolling loop record for when you need it.

possibly a little more fuss but its the sub £2.00 option

Thanks for the link, oldgit, but I am still confused about wich one to chose. Do you mean one down an third to the right alas this one ?

Problemchild: You are way off. If I wanted an app I would have asked for an app...

This is the one I ended up being happy with after trying a few.

Full 1080P HD, starts recording a few seconds after you turn the car on, records over old videos so the card never fills up and has a small screen on it so you can aim it.

Here is the quality of the video that it takes.

Good shout JJ - if you've already got a smart phone your only outlay would be the bluetooth obd2 transmitter and they're only about a fiver or so.

Got to admit that I've only used mine with "Torque" for a few extra gauges!

Thanks for responding, Evil. This one seems to meet my needs.

A couple of questions tho: Will this gadget work on a lorry alas 24V system, and how about its night vision ?

Besides that:How does the motion detection system work.
I am all new to this sort of gadget so need as much info as possible before purchasing the 'right one'

The cigarette lighter plug that came with mine can be plugged into 12v or 24v and reduces the power to 5v for the camera - this seems to be pretty well standard for things like sat navs and mobile phones with usb connections.

The cig socket on my car is ignition controlled so the camera starts and stops with ignition on and off.

                      Re: Dash cam

Don't need Bluetooth - the app just accesses the camera on your phone and records everything - over writing as it goes with date and time stamp.

Can you recommend one? I looked but couldn't find one. I currently use the video function and it's a pretty good shot in the day but useless in the dark, plus if I had to hand it over, I don't think I'd want anyone listening to my cat strangling rendition of Christmas songs!

It seems the cam (what cam?) is sort of wobbling looking at the dash...
What sort of cam and what is used to secure it in place ?
I am sort of certain I wont buy the one you have, looking at the clip.
It does for sure document stuff, but not in the quality I want...

Could we please talk about dash cams only, here, and sod the apps ?
