Re: Not looking good for smart is it?

Mechanically changed gears are magnitudes faster than human changes and in F1 these reductions in gear change time can be the difference in 1st or last.

So are you talking auto or automated manual?

You see very few auto cars in motor racing.

And I wouldn't recommend left foot breaking on public roads! Something goes wrong and your brain tells your feet to stamp down - possibly on both pedals

The smart is a great concept poorly executed

Stamping on both pedals will result only in braking (another advantage of fly by wire). The problem of the 451 is partially the fun factor, no turbo, 5 speed instead of six, downgraded looks and poor mileage.

'The smart is a great concept poorly executed', couldn't agree more, wish the current management would look back at the roots of Smart instead of e-bikes, furniture partnerships and other smoke.

      Cheers!

Yes, but that is not the standard model, realistically a city car shouldn't cost over £15,000, it isn't competitive.

          Cheers!

A Pure in 2005 cost £6-7000. What happened in between?

people who want to spend the money will spend the money. you might think its expensive but to someone who is willing to pay 15 grand might not think so

Don't forget the 84bhp "naturally aspirated" turbo. Not much more expensive, but returning around 40mpg at an unacceptable compromise (IMO).

I put my granddad's specs on and the small blurry pic became clear and quite large

That's just silly - maybe the turbo only feeds 2 cylinders

My opinion of the current fortwo is that it is very dated, and I think it needs now to be redesigned from the ground up. It needs to go back to being a cheap fun car again.
