  • Suprex engine variants

Been searching around for tachnical info on the diffeerent variants of the Suprex (42,roadster,bradbus etc etc)

    As yet no joy.

Anyone know of a thread or have the info??
Trying to figure it all out cos they are all 698cc 6v motors but vary from 50 to pushing 100bhp

      Cheers
I was hoping for info on cam variations, turbos etc etc

Sort of a potted 'why is his car faster than mine' guide

I got the idea as i have a 61hp 42 and was wondering what i can do. I know roadster engines have been transplanted but it's still the 698 suprex so do i need to swap the entire thing or is it a cam and tubro job or does it have bigger valves or a different head or something??

        Re: Suprex engine variants

From what I've found out, it varies from 50 to 101bhp by changing the following:
50bhp pure fortwo is the most basic petrol varient

61bhp pulse/passion/early roaster lights has an extra valve controlling the turbo and the ECU is altered for more torque and 11 extra bhp

74bhp Brabus fortwo has the foam filter, exhaust, ECU and cam (I think?)

82bhp roadsters have a bigger turbo over the 61bhp, higher lift camshaft and altered ECU.

101bhp Brabus roadsters have an even bigger turbo, higher flow injectors, cam lift, ECU, foam air filter, twin exit exhaust and the all important charge cooler, in lieu of the air to air intercooler.

You can get 81bhp roadster power out of a fortwo engine, because it's the same in principle. Which also means Brabus power with a few extra mods like a proper sports exhaust system, decent induction kit, big turbo, mocal hoses, scoops and remaps, etc etc. The list goes on.

Hope that helps you on your quest for smart knowledge!!

          Re: Suprex engine variants

          Thank you

It'll be going into SRU for a fiddle soon so i might get a quote on a cam and turbo. Filter will be fitted anyway as i always prefer a decent flowing filter on a car. Exhaust, as long as it's quite, will probably follow soon.

Brand spanky pulse with 300 miles on it so far.

I fancied the brabus but i wouldn't have got the tax breaks so i went for as much as i could get withing the 120 bracket.

Sound pods and unders seat draw are on order. Audio will follow when the dealer decides if i get the CD player they promised or not (not pushing too hard cos i fancy a pioneer bluetooth unit)

I'm not after outright performance, i have another toy for that, i just like a bit or urge, and this thing is so cheap to mod and tune i couldn't resist it.

                Re: Suprex engine variants

Ok, so when you are ready, buy yourself a roadster camshaft, injectors, air filter and a remap and you should see around 85+bhp. That's what I was going to do, but I'm saving up now for a roadster.

                  Re: Suprex engine variants

SRU reckon they can get 85 from a re-map with a filter anyway.
I notice all of the Brabus models state 98 octane super unleaded is required, which suggests to me they are mapped for higher boost levels all the time.

The brabus roadie is 101 with the same basic engine so thats my target. Rather than charge cooler how about water injection?

FT07_AMG, basic points above are correct. Water injection has been tried but we never got the new jets from the US supplier. The car runs but needs a few tweaks. The project will continue when a few other projects are completed.

The boys at SRU have a lot to offer so, have a chat and work out what suits you.

                      Re: Suprex engine variants

I've seen threads about nitrous oxide injection from a company, that might be an option.

                        Hehe wizz wizz BANG!

I'm not after modding the hell out of it i just want to take the engine to it's practical maximum without going all aftermarket and silly.

I had a chat with the SRU guys today and he reckons a brabus roady conversion of the 42 engine is no big problem (intercooler aside) and to budget a couple of grand for the job so it may just happen.

                          Re: Suprex engine variants

Whats the cost of a replacement engine, fitted? I had seen things on eBay coming in at around 750quid. So, it's quite tempting to push the engine and if it does explode, go get a new one, which in relative terms, is cheap...

I think you're right, you won't get much change out of a grand for a replacement 599cc engine. The later 698cc is even more expensive, looking through some of the sites and people on EBay.

I know, I should get out more!!

                              Re: Suprex engine variants

It's only done 450miles, i don't want to try and blow it up yet! Plus as it's about 6 inches from the back of my head i don't fancy having to duck as bits of conrod come flying at me.

It is tempting to get a 2nd hand engine and push it to totally looney levels to see what it will really do. I reckon with major surgery (big valves etc) 150bhp would be possible, but that would need serious rev limits and massive boost pressures.
