  • Pure, Pulse or Passion..?

    Hi all!!

I am a complete newcomer to the Smart scene and will be searching for my first Smart car but I don't have much of an idea on specs, etc.:newbie:

I know that there are the Pure, Pulse and Passion but what are the basic differences between them? Are all Smarts Auto/semi Auto?

Any basic or common faults I should look out for?

I am looking at around the 2 grand price range but I want to make sure I don't get conned!!

    Thanks for your help!!

    Re: Pure, Pulse or Passion..?

ive just put my order in for new smart car passion. nice high spec with added luxuries compared to pure and pulse model. the models are designed towards different car usage, pure being basic, pulse for the sports and passion for that added extra so it dwn to individual choice. have u not considered buying a new smart on finance? as deals are looking good for the new smart generation

      Re: Pure, Pulse or Passion..?

for 2k your looking at an older version smart (600cc) so look out for the turbo as they tend to crack more easily than the 700cc versions, and be wary of more higher milage smarts

pure very basic model (can be upgraded though easily)
Pulse - Alloys as standard and some more bits (cosmetics)
Passion - Alloys and AC as standard + extra bits

sure theres a more scientific differences post coming up.

For £2k you are not going to get a great car, im sure there are some out there put usually you are dipping into eBay sh1tters!

Why not have look in the for sale section for decent loved cars which will love you back.

here is one which is a minter! alittle more than your budget but snap it up

£2000 is not going to get you much:frown: The pure is the cheapest as said and the lightest. The only down side to them is the cloth on seats and door cards.I have had my door cards re coverd in black and have custom made seat covers though by the grace of god the orignal materal is still like new underneath. The other downside to the Pure is if it has it's original steel wheels. They do not let the air flow through as well as alloys hence i got rid of mine and do not suffer auto lane change on motoways anymore if its windy.

              Re: Pure, Pulse or Passion..?

Like the others have said, Pure is the basic model, Pulse the slightly sportier one (e.g it has a rev counter and pods), whilst the Passion is the one with that little bit more, air con as standard, etc.

I think someone else has pointed this out, but look at the car HoagieKat from this forum is selling, its been really well looked after, and would be a good deal.

Hope you find your perfect Smart soon

                Re: Pure, Pulse or Passion..?

Pure has a solid (not glass) roof.. much cooler in hot weather BUT it has no air con.

Pure has no auto option, just semi-auto - which is what most people use anyway.

Pure more economical - partly cos of narrow front tyres - these make car more liable to wander in high winds.

you can guess i'm a pure owner...

BUY ONE... 0ver 22,000 miles in mine in 2 years, NO problems, just under 50,000 miles now

                  Re: Pure, Pulse or Passion..?

I have a Pure and love it, less to go wrong as my Dad would say

The fully auto mode was an option on Pures, mine has it and, although it isn't as quick as the manual mode, its good for heavy traffic etc IMHO.

                    Re: Pure, Pulse or Passion..?

if you look on auto trader, national search there are no cars under £2k

so how do they value what car cars worth.

i have a 52 plate 31k mile PURE, I paid £5,200 when it was 8months old, whats it woth now!

you never really see any smart car under £3k

so they hold there value well?

                      Agree values do seem solid.

For example, I was amazed this one wasn't snapped up:

Seems a fair price for a nice car in a good colour!

                        Got one!

Found this 52 plate Passion for £2575, drove it back from Newcastle yesterday and it runs a treat!

Very happy with it, just a question- both my keyfobs are broken where they attach to the keyring, I am guessing that this is a common thing! Any easy way of repair/replace without paying the earth?:silvertri

Glad to finally be an owner and looking forward to posting more!:p

                          Re: Pure, Pulse or Passion..?

                          Congratulations!

When you say your key fobs are broken, do you mean the previous owner has detatched them from the keys? Some owners do this, because the keys plus fobs are massive, but if you go on www.fq101.co.uk you will see how to fix this problem.

                          Enjoy your Smart! :silvertri

                            congratulations
I assume you mean the plastic bit has snapped through... I don't think it's as common as you think.
but never the less the plastic casing just pops apart. pm smartypartfast for a price on new covers, otherwise keep your eye out for keys on ebay and swap over the covers.

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

Hey, just a quick curious question to all out there, looking at my Smart 52 plate in the pic previous what Mark is my car? 5,6 or 7? Are body parts (spoilers etc) interchangable between the various Marks?
Also anybody know the colour code for the body panels on my Smart? The code on the body comes up as Phat Red (the original owner changed his mind at the last minute at the dealers!)

                              Thanks!
