A colleague at work insists Smart are developing a Smart Car with 2 engines. I've not heard anything, but I thought I'd ask the experts. Anyone heard such a rumour? Maybe they're developing a hybrid petrol/electric car? I don't know where they'd stick another engine though!

it could be a mistake in that there are reviews of the smart roadster brabus V6 bi-turbo, in the chinese whisper style it could have started as a smart roadster with two engines stuck together could then transpose to a smart with two engines! not impossible<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
also the smart wasnt realy designed to carry that kind of power it just i dont think a car with that wheel base would cope too well with two engins on the corners. but you never know!

I think two-engined versions of the Austin/Morris Mini Moke and the Citroen 2CV were built in the 1960s, probably for military applications.
The "Wow" factor was the most positive result because there were engine synchronisation problems, among others, and the cars were found to be not particularly suitable for whatever it was they were supposed to do.
Wouldn't a bigger single engine coupled to four-wheel drive be a better route?
In fact, how about fitting a diesel unit from an A-Class under the monstrosity above, together with 4WD?

Sounds like that Twin Engined A Class that Mercedes made. The twin engined bike Mini's are monsters, wouldn't like to drive a twin engined Smart unless it had a really wide track. You can play with the twin engined 2CV in Colin Mcrae Rally 4, it makes a great noise but is dog slow.

Innovation is nothing new(Is there a pun there?)
I remember back in the late 70's Alessndra De Tomaso he of the Pantera GTS fame also owned the Benelli & Moto Guzzi bike factories. For those of you into your bikes you will probably remember the Honda CBX 1000 6 cylinder. The Benelli 750 & 900 Sei(Six) pre dates the Honda and Old Boy De Tomaso came up with this idea of putting two 750 sei engines together thus creating a 1500cc V12 but it came to nought.Nice idea though I hate to think what servicing costs would be.
Maybe the idea should be resurrected
Smart Brabus V12(name certainly has a ring to it)
