Bike engined cars have been around for quite a while now....very few of them actually making it as a road car!
I much prefer the idea of this conversion.....if it can be adapted for road use (this one is a hill climb car)...it would be very rapid & should be reliable...and wouldn't loose all the boot space either!!!
having been in a gsxr powered smart all i can say is this , yes it goes like a barsteward but living with it day to day i think i would rather have the crossblade to live with as a only car as its very noisy in the cab and its a case of all or nothing power wise
i hope one day to replace my brabus engine when it reaches old age and dies & replace it with a Bike Engine. cost a bob or two so will have to get saving.
This kit is by Extreme Cars Its not on there site yet but far cheaper than the smartuki conversion and you use your original subframe.
Mines getting there just got to mount the oil intercooler and suss out the water cooling pipes on the smart.. then maybe I can get it started !!!! cant wait :-)
I'm in bolton , manchester if anyone wants a lookie :-)
Nice that 'extreme cars' use a pic of my car (as it was originally) on their site for the smart conversion!!!!......Do you think they'll do one for me, for free for advertising?????
While it is not illegal to fit wheelie bars to a road vehicle, it IS illegal to use them on the road...........
the old bike conversion eh....well, it's not alot of use if you can't use it every day, i've said it before and i'll say it again, inline 4 cylinder bike engines ain't the way to go for an easy to use bike conversion, the problem is they have bugger all torque so are no good at low revs and a fekin great lump of power at the top of the rev range but makes them not too friendly on the ears!!!....to use a bike engine in a car you need torque...and lots of it!
to use a bike engine in a car you need torque...and lots of it!
I've always said....you need to use the Triumph 3 cylinder 'Rocket' engine.....2.3 litres of torque, (not sure what the power output is...but I think it should be a lot more than a smart engine???)
OR....the MR 2 conversion, which is a hell of a lot cheaper for engine/gearbox etc? (Yes I know it's not a bike engine....but surely the only point of any such conversion is to make a car with loads of 'oomph'???)....so you surprise owners of 'fast' road cars with your 'ickle smartie'!!!!
