Reverse gear on smart with GSXR engine? help

Hello im new to this forum! Im from Russia...
My friend is building Smart car with a gsxr engine. So far we're confused how to make a reverse gear work on that thing may be somebody knows an answer to this problem ? pictures of examples will be great... :thanx:

Judging from the kit car people and other assorted lunatics I know, the usual answer in a bike-engined car is an electric motor for reverse, with the engine used only to go forwards. It's much cheaper than one of the trick reverse mods (which tend to give you all six reverse gears at will too!) and plenty good enough for what you tend to need on these kinds of trackday toys.

the 1800 wing uses an electric motor itself for reversing purposes!
prehaps they should use a smart engine

You can get a proper selector fork set up. Look on Smartcarofamerica. There's a guy with a Hayabusa 451 with a trick reverse selector box which uses the engine and not a starter motor to select reverse. Also Quaife in the UK do a reverse box which is very good quality.

Along with Quaife, there is another company that does a reverse gear set up combined with a a chaincase. Not certain, but I think it it TTS (Towcester Tuning Services). If not them, they will know who.

My Goldwing is a 1500, smaller than an 1800
but you would never fit it inside a smart,

some old cars with 2 stroke engines had an adjuster so you could alter the timing and maker the engine start in reverse, shame you cant do it with a 4 stroke!

iv heard of old 2-stroke motorbikes misfiring in wet conditions & then running backwards,would be hillarious/embarrasing at the lights

id stick with an electric reverse rather than faff about with an exspensive reverse gear option Oh Pics and videos when its done are a must!

Ive not heard of that before, A friend of mine used to have a party trick of bump starting his bike backwards to get it going, the best part was watching him trying to push it back wards while sat on it, its amzing how little control you have of balance when you have to turn the handlebars the opposite to normal!

It was, apparently, also painful. A groin full of headstock! Ouch!!

It's also one of the reasons why 2-strokes are the piston engine of choice in the marine world of very big ships. To reverse, they just stop the engine and then run it backwards. Recent snowmobiles do the same.
