In light of this , I hope you find the problem is indeed the cylinder head

Where does the water enter and exit the turbo?

Cheers. I had seen the banjos but had just assumed they were the oil supply and return, I had no idea the turbo had water passing through it.

Smartsparky. That car will probably have coolant in the oil as well. Not good!

Indeed. I was worried about that and did inspect the oil. It 'seems' okay. I imagine that this might be due to the oil pressure being higher than the coolant when running. We will check this weekend again this weekend as the problem is getting worse! In a way, I would like the turbo to completely fail as it would confirm this once and for all!

On cooling down there will be a brief period when the water pressure is the greater. Oil contaminated with even less than 1% water loses its film strength.
An easy check for water in oil is to put a very small droplet on a very hot surface - cooker hotplate at about 200degC is ideal - and watch for it spitting. If there is water, it will boil immediately and spit.

You should have said TURBO = £800

Well if your turbo has gone, you might as well upgrade and get a map at the same time!!
