Well what a wealth of opinion.I have an old fashioned Klaxon on ozzy, works extremly well single tone but different enough to not get lost in the mass of traffic noise! And legal as well!Sounds a bit like a Submarine diving warning. You know "Dive!Dive!Dive!Oooooooaaaaaaaagggghhhh!!"
Sorry Folks, you are off the thread, I was going on about the horn being 'CONTINUOUS and uniform'sound, not how loud it is!
Audible Warning Instruments covered by Regulation 37 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986.
It should be CONTINUOUS and uniform and not strident.
MY QUESTION: Would an air horn with a tune be defined as CONTINUOUS and uniform ? I think not. I will go along with 'tune playing horns' being used on private property, with a single switch fitted, but not to be used on the highway.
The BIG problem with air horns is that a basic model has a delay due to waiting for the compressor to build up enough pressure to work, and in emergences you do notice the delay, (to my anguish on a previous car).
If buying an air horn get one that is very fast operating or has a built in air storage vessel that gives you instantainous pressure at all times.
i think the hole point of this was to have a look at ourselves! i don't think anyone here would seriously think of warning a docile pedestrain about the oncoming vehicle with a quick blast of dixie horn would we?
i don't like the fact when trying to 'warn' other road users of my presence with the standard horn that it sounds as though i have accidently strangled a duck instead!
currently trying to find either a truck horn or a train horn baaarrrp - ba!
by definition any horn been fitted to a UK spec road vehicle as OEM would then be legal on any other vehicle
Instead of breaking the law such as it is, if you wish to draw attention to yourself to warn other road users of your pressence, just get Mr V to upgrade your ICE, people may not appreciate your taste in music, but you certainly would draw there aural attention to you, whether that is breaking a road traffic law is another matter but certainly would not fail any MOT or suchlike.
There was a quite political debate yesterday about someone driving like a muppet at a meet. Surely funkysmart isn't getting serious??
I'm sure I can make sure it doesn't
on point about music been too loud did anyone hear about the guy in miami (i think) who was prosecuted for polluting the air as his music was audible more than 100 feet (or something like that) from his car? think that a few people would be shaking in their boots if that happened!
