  • OBD II Dongles.

Hi all. I've just had my Obd II dongle turn up today.
Its working ok with Torque and CaroO on my Galaxy SII (I've still got to decide which program I will use) but I was wondering, those that used an OBD, do you leave them plugged in all the while? I can't imagine the battery drain would be that much, or do you take them out??

It will not drain the battery.... :-)
I kept mine plugged in all the time.

Thanks.... just what I thought but the way my luck goes I'd thought I'd ask to be safe

Depends - as far as I know the OBD is constantly powered so the Bluetooth is constantly on.

Although they are supposed to go into a low power mode, my kiwi wifi OBD dongle still drains my battery I the car is unused for a few weeks (like holidays)

Cheers JJ. Common sense really. If your leaving your car alone for a long time, out it comes. Out of curiosity, what software are you running with obd??

              Re: OBD II Dongles.

OBD II is not implemented the same in all cars.

Equally it is not implemented the same on all OBD dongles .

As an example my garmin the dongle some times doesn't switch on in the the smart yet always switches on correctly in the Audi and my wife's ford, and yet my el cheapo BT dongle the from eBay switches on correctly in both the smart and Audi but not at all in the wife's Ford.

              Don't you just love standards
