  • Tune or Sell?

    Hi all,

Probably been asked 1001 times but I'm going for it. I've got a 54 plate ForTwo pulse, leather, paddle shift, Monoblock VI's (Anthracite), cruise etc but still standard with nearly 18k on the clock.
I'm stuck with trying to decide, shall I tune my current pulse, or shall I go for a 2nd hand Brabus??
Just after some opinions good or bad I'll take them on the chin.
    Cheers all, Jon.

Difficult one - you have your car exactly how you want it but you want more power?

A tailored remap is pretty cheap and you have low miles on your current car so shouldn't need a rebuild any time soon if you continue to care for it and service it regularly.

But a BRABUS is likely to be more reliable long term but you may be buying a dog.

I think I would go for a nice remap and some lowering springs on your own lovely looking car

I agree. You have a great looking, low mileage 450. Do a remap and enjoy what you have.

Thank you both for your replies. Can you recommend a tuner. Can't seem to find much in the midlands apart from general servicing?
Also to even out the ride height what springs?

Given the low mileage of yours, I'm with PC and ZO6 on this. Stick with what you know and tailor it to your wants.

Springs: I've got Pi (25-30mm lower) on mine and been very happy with them. (Buy direct from Pi website). A 13mm rear anti roll bar (from smart dealer) to replace the 11mm item further improves the handling (with the above set-up the diagonal pitching is banished). All cheap and very effective.

Thank you. Great tip. I'll definitely go that way first. Anybody had experience with the S2 Smarts stealth exhaust??

I would go twin centre exit looks awesome!!

S2smart / tune4performance will do you a rolling road and diagnostic before they map your car and then tweak your map to get the best out of it

Plus a friendly atmosphere and waiting area with teas and coffee

                  Beg to differ.
They make the fortwo look taller and narrower than it already is. The unbroken valence (as standard) serves to 'widen' the car - in the way that wearing horizontal stripes make you look fatter. Breaking it in the middle and sticking pipes there ruins the effect.

I'd go with the brabus, just changed a 62 plate passion convertible and there is no contest between build quality, ride, accelaration and shear fun.

Re-maps are fine but it is still a standard car.

Go for it, you won't regret it!

                      Wouldn't having a remap make it a non-standard car anyway? :p

I'd tune over selling any day. My 2002 Smart City-Coupe Pure may have started out in life as a bog-standard car but the past 4 years of rebuilding/modifying/adapting the car means it is now my car in my specification, not a pre-specified tune up from Brabus. My car is technically "lesser" than a Brabus but I refuse to believe that even a Brabus tuned Smart would excite me in the same way my car does. Doubtless, however, the Brabus would get there quicker than mine.

Agreed. I toyed with the idea of having a centre exhaust on my car but in the end decided against it for the reason of the broken flow.

True, but unless you are going to spend extra money on the running gear, interior etc and you are already weighing up the pros and cons then it is worth test driving a few to see what you think of the Brabus.

I've owned a 450 Passion and the 451 Passsion Cab and there is no comparison to the Brabus. So far my fuel consumption has been better than the 451 ??

                        Just beginners luck perhaps.

I say sell it, buy a Brabus then tune that and customise all u like, that way you have your cake and eat it.

If you can buy the Brabus first then u could swap the blue panels and wheels over, making it very unique then sell the pulse

Tune your current 450 while you wait to see what the next gen smart 42 actually turns out like.

Then if still after a Brabus you may find the market has a glut for sale?
