  • Smart Brabus TUNING!!!

    Hi All!

I'm contemplating buying a Brabus Coupe @ the mo but I am concerned that after four years of "Hot Hatch" action in my 106 GTI the Brabus will be abit of a let down on the performance side of things!

So I need as much info as poss on Performance upgrades, Is there any companies out there that can modify the smart BUT doesn't effect the cars warranty etc? Whats Mods should I be looking for and whats the cost implications of the above?

Add me to your msn and reply as I'm keen to rather info before I purchase! tylerbrodest@hotmail.com

    Thanks In Advance!!!

    eh..... brabus?!

the brabus IS ALREADY a modified smart.. so depends on whether you buy a std smart and modify it or buy a brabus. You can make a std smart faster than a brab for less money, but you would have no legs to stand on come warranty claims.....

      welcome to funkysmart!

the brabus is pretty fastish for a smart but if you buy one new and start modding then bye bye warranty!

there are many companies who do remaps for the smart if you look on the funkysmart homepage youll see a vote as to peopls fav remap! i love the smarts r us one great fun!

also if you gonna get a new smart and a remap go for the standard 61bhp not the pure 50bhp as the 50 wont get the full effect of the remap. you can also get the k&n filter and induction kit. most remaps come in around £200 - £300

if you really want to spend there is always a larger turbo than the standard one plus race cam and port polish ect but your talking money there!

Looking @ buying a Brand new Brabus Coupe but TBH I'm used to a car that accelerates to sixty in just over 7 secs, is this unachievable to get this performance out of the Brabus???

I was talkin to a guy @ the Motor show on the Smart Stand and he mentioned a engine upgrade taking to 140bhp for 800 pounds by a company called Smart Wise, is this correct???

140 bhp from 0.7 litre i think not! he was pulling you leg for sure! from a remap youll get 81 bhp - 86bhp and there is one that says 120 but i would not like to find out what the engine would do from that kind of power!

if you want to mod then get a smart pulse ( for alot less that the brabus) and then mod it yourself. with a remap eibach springs k&n alloys ect youll get a much faster car for a lot less!

WHAT??? I thought the Brabus was 101bhp to start with???

Has No1 experince of the 180bhp SmartRus Z car conversion? What could Digitec offer me???

This Brabus MUST go quick if I am to chop in my 106!!!

              Hi T99LER,

Up until the weekend I was very much in the same boat as you (looking at changing to a Brabus Roadster from a Citroen Saxo VTR).

All I can say is take the Brabus for a test drive, and you will not look back !<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

the 180bhp smart roadster i have been in and yes its damn fast but with £10000 just for the kit then the car on top! this has a 1000cc 180bhp suzuki GSXR bike engine in it so it will go fast but only at a price!

if your talking about the brabus coupe roadster then yes you should get more power than i stated but not in the brabus coupe SMART two differnet cars.

if you are talking about the roadster then get a standard and mod yourself as above.

if im right then the engine in the smart and the brabus smart is one and the same its just the software thats different.

Don't contemplate a Smart if you want a performance car! Smarts are for fun!

Well according to the spec of your Pug 106 GTI you should have 120BHP and 107 lbft of torque and do 0-60 in 8.2sec. A Brabus roadster coupe has 101BHP and 96lbft of torque. So the BHP per ton is 124 for the Brabus and 125 for your GTI and the brabus has more torque then your GTI per ton 118lbft against 111lbft. The 0-60 times of all smarts are not great as its got a six speed gear box with relatively slower change times then possible with a normal gearbox. So the roadster should still feel quick quick.

It is possible to increase the BHP slightly but it will void your warrenty as it would with your current 106. So if you want a quick car then buy yourself a scooby or Evo. The Roadster is great fun, its fast enough for me traveling to and from work and the bulk of my driving but if I want to go fast then I get out my XR4x4 sierra with 250BHP and four wheel drive. My girlfriend also owns a pug 106 XSI which does handle very well like my roadster but the roadster is quicker is most situations.

The roadster does not suit every one. Why do you want to change from your current car?

Thanks for the useful points sparkplug, I tend to use Evo Mag as my bible to performance figures. 8.2secs 0-60 is laughable to be honest but as a rule Pug usually do there figures with a Full Tank of fuel, passenger and "X" amount of luggage weight.Had the GTI since I was 18 for over 4.5yrs now just want another fun car, def dont want a evo/scoob type car!!!

Going to Test drive 1 2day!

One other note is I used to have a Smart Pulse city coupe and found myself sitting on the speed limiter at 85MPH. But since I got the roadster I've found myself going quite a bit slower, I think its the fact I'm closer to the ground so it feels faster and I do enjoy the ride more. BTW when I used to drive the Sierra to and from work each day I did find myself doing 130MPH up and down the motorways. It was the cost of fuel and the real risk of getting points on my license that made me rethink and get the smart in the first place. The Pulse was a great car but the roadster suits me more.

Please tell us how you got on, is it fast enough for you and what do you think about the handling?
