  • Newbie from Poland :)

    Hello
My name is Paul, I live in south-east part of poland.
I'm owner of pre-lift F2 600ccm, it's 5 years with us right now and we're doing great... apart from a leak between engine and gearbox...
I came here I guess to find some info for swapping engine for something bigger, first of all I was thinking about bike engine... but later... gas prices are sick right now... so I will look for some car engine that would fit in to work with my LPG system that my F2's running right now...
I was thinking about 1,3l Swift GTi(got one in suzuki sj413, and it goes sick with it in mud ) engine or maybe 2l from MR2 would hop in... I guess one way or other I go I'll have to make new subframe for the engine.
I guess that's enough for saying hello Now I'll look around and find some info

BTW here is a pic of my smartie

PS sorry for some mistakes, I guess it's first time I use english after 2-3 years...
PPS sorry if pics are too big, I'm going to read the rules right now just wanted to say hello

    Hello Pawel,

    to maniacs!

You're English is fine - much better than my Polish! lol

Images should be 800px wide (you will see that your pictures have been scaled down to this dimension). But thank you for sharing pictures of your smart!

your leak between gearbox and engine will be the gearbox input shaft seal (relatively common failure).
And there are a few threads on here for both bike and mr2 conversions... not in much detail I must add as it's not really a bolt-in type swap.
best and most common swap is the roadie engine.

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

        Re: Newbie from Poland

This leak is my fault... Once when I was in a hurry, I topped a lil bit too much oil and than just before a hill after changing down it made a blue oil smoke, but it was just a one cloud after almost instantly shooting it down on bus stop I removed bumper, exhaust and looked into turbo, but it was quite all right, but just after that it started to leak between qb and engine... so I guess it might be crankshaft seal... My fault.
I have to do sth with it although it has a new map it's gb is killing all the fun...
I'm looking aroung for some custom camshaft and head polishing be4 engine swap...

But speaking of roadie engine... It's plug and play without swapping ECU? If yes, that means, that maps from roadie or f2 brabus should suit normal 600 or I'm wrong?
What were roadie numbers for ECU? 006?
        600ccm had 004 as I remember, brabus and 700 had 005?

          Re: Newbie from Poland

if you can find a brabus 700 (or any other roadie engine), yep, it'll bold straight up to your 600 gearbox and 600 ECU.
The only thing you'll need to do is block off the EGR.

for the cam and polishing, drop a note to the likes of big performance, he does that stuff.
We had one of his fast road/race cams in the fortwo, it went like the clappers

            Hmm interesting things you're saying
EGR is a piece of junk... I'm trying to get rid of it in every car... it only makes problems...
Thanks for the tip about cams
I've got one guy in poland he made cam for my '89 escort 1,6 8v and it' went sick with it starting from 3,5krpm just to the end
Thank got I've got second engine with a hole in it so I can send him a cam while still using my car

              Re: Newbie from Poland

              sounds good
In reality the race cam we had did make it a little interesting for normal road use, as the power was more like a switch... all or nothing, so remember to have usability in a factor when lookig at a new cam... if thats not an issue, then it helped us get the fortwo from 54bhp to 117bhp. lol

                Re: Newbie from Poland

It's really not an issue cuz if I want to roll... I just roll around 2-2,5krpm, but if I get on my road from Crosno to Rzeszow which is 69km in smart through hills, forrest and 180* turns, it takes like 40-45minutes, after this 45min's I'm happy for rest of my day
117bhp in normal F2 sounds sick I drove 451 with 120bhp and that was nice, but 450 with same power Wow

                  Re: Newbie from Poland

If you want to go for a larger engine swap in the future, contact nikb on here....he's the first (only) person as far as I know to have installed a 2ltr MR2 engine in a road smart. Jim Gazey has the hill climb (racing spec) MR2 engined car (known as Froglet....search u tube for videos etc)

Another alternative, if you can find one, is the 1.3 Turbo engine from Toyota Glanza, which has also been done by someone here, (Shaun) into a roadie....if you want LOTS of power this could be better way to go, as you could up the boost to what level you want? Shaun was running this on very low boost for around 140bhp.....but we think it would be good for up to 250bhp if you wanted to go mad!!!

Should be noted that neither conversion would be easy....both of the above took their owners around 6 - 9 months to complete!

                    Re: Newbie from Poland

Thank's for advice, but I think that this Glanza 1,3T would be harder to find than anything... What was it called outside of Jp and UK? Starltet?
I've seen vids with Froglet lifting its wheels Really nice
I guess I'll start on reading today after my job Thank's again

                      Re: Newbie from Poland

Yep.....the Glanza was a Japan only model i think, a few made it to the UK as personal imports but I think it would be hard to find in Poland?...It was based on the Starlet, yes.

                        Re: Newbie from Poland

Hello again some time went by, and i got angry on smart and even wanted to sell it, but, i thought that I give it a try one more time...
I dont know if I said it be4, but I was running some custom map that was only a little different from ori... but i kept it due to ESP which was turned of in this map. I went on smart maniacs again yesterday, installed my old boost gauge, and it was just sad... 0,5bar of boost... i've spent few minutes under the car and had a little fight with dump valve... 2,5 turns in. Gauge showed 1,3bar on high load going uphill, it goes like mad man... The 5th feels like 4th... awesome. I'll go to the dyno this week, but will it make to the end of the week? Will the ECU cope with such increase of air and will it give good amount of petrol in?

PS sorry for my weak language skills and for asking it here, but I thought it would be useless making new thread for this.
