  • New owner to be from Kent

Hi all, My names Craig and im from Bexleyheath in Kent. I am looking into buying a Smart Fortwo 451 which i believe is the newest model? I do not know much about these but im looking into learning more about these cars. I would like to buy a 1 litre version in white or black. This is going to be a big difference for me as ive always had reasonabley fast cars, at the moment i have a Mitsubishi Evo 5.

I am looking for one with hopefully leather seats, cd/sat nav and electric windows. I will also like afew styling tips and engine modifications if there is many as i will more than likely go down this route and would like to take on a little bit of a project

Anyway it be nice to speak to afew of you and see what ideas you all have with your own Fortwo's.

    Thanks in advance.

    Craig

Hi, what are you buying it for, fun or economy? If it's the latter, don't bother with the petrol, diesel all the way (slow but efficient). If it's the former, 84bhp or Brabus, don't bother with the 71 n/a.

      Hi there and welcome!
Are you looking for brand new or second hand?
We have both a 12 reg and 59 reg CDi. The 12 reg is top of the range with sat nav, arm rest etc and is 54BHp and the 59 reg is the 45 BHp but is only with the standard CD player.

Both are very economical and efficient, and nippy as well but the 54 is noticeably nippier than the 45 BHp one.

        Hi

Thanks for your replies, ideally I'm after second hand and over 70bhp in petrol. I want more fun and its still economical prepared to my 18mpg Evo. I've searched the 84bhp version but seem hard to find in white, as for the brabus I do like them and prefer the newer version over the older one but I do not have the budget to buy a new brabus. Why is the 71bhp 451 version not worth getting as this is only 3bhp difference from the older version of the brabus? Plus I do like the newer version of these cars as the styling in the lights in my opinion looks better. Just trying to weigh up the options but would like your help in choosing the best.

        Thanks

84hp much much more fun than the 71hp, the n/a is boring compared to the 84 and I've owned both the mpg is still great before mine I was driving a Lexus gettin 18 to gallon if I was lucky

The 71 is n/a and I found it slower than my 450 pulse. Plus it's MHD after 2008, which comes with it's own problems (eats batteries, has a potentially fatal v belt problem). It will certainly be more economical than your Evo, but still p*ss poor for a smart IMO, especially one that's not quick.

That's great to know, I will keep clear of the 71 version then, so the 84 have a turbo like the brabus? I've been looking at the 84's online today and I see you can pick them up for good money with a lot of the extras, I'm going to have a hunt for one at the weekend and see what I can find. It be good to see what other members have done to there 84s styling and engine wise, is there much tuning you can do with the engine?

Re: New owner to be from Kent

Yes, but the Brabus is 101bhp IIRC. There's a lot more can be done with a turbo engine tuning wise.

I believe the 84 can be remapped to brabus I think? And the body parts from brabus fit the passion and pulse I have brabus lights and other bits on my 84 passion

Re: New owner to be from Kent

Everything I've heard about these cars at the moment is all positive and I'm considering buying a 84 very soon. Is there many organised meets in the Kent/London area as once I have my Smart it will be great to meet afew of you and see other people's idea's

I'm based in Bexleyheath so on the edge of southeast London, once I have purchased my smart maybe we could get a group of us together and organise a meet if there isn't any organised already?

There is some around but I've only been to 1 and there wasn't a high turnout so I didn't stay be good to meet somewhere that you can get something to eat outside and have a good chat

Welcome to the smart world. I'm based in Kent and used to live near Bexleyheath.

Years ago, meets and get togethers in Kent were a big event. These days, I believe the only one still running is East Kent Smarties, which I've been to a couple of times.
