  • Hello new owner or soon to be

    Aa

    Hi,
I'm currently the owner of a classic mini and I'm planning to sell and buy a smart
I've admired the smart since it was first launched and decided to jump in and experience the joy of owning one
Been thinking about buying one that has engine problems and having the engine rebuilt
I figure that way I'll have a car that has an engine that's good for anything over the next few years
Any suggestions or help with choosing would be very much appreciated

Watch the VED bands - they vary across the range, early cars being quite costly, and air-con and tyre options affect them also.
If not buying one ripe for rebuild (not a bad idea BTW) consider a Brabus variant - their engines are more durable.

Re: Hello new owner or soon to be

        Hi,
Sorry it's taken so long to reply
I've finally bought my first smart
Funds were limited I'm afraid so had to buy what was available
and I'll just have to improve it as time goes by
I pick it up today it's a smart pure 50 Auto
I really don't know enough about the range to say wether
Its a good buy or terrible buy, but it's in good working order and tidy looking
Any help with improving it or pitfalls I should look out for with it would be
        Appreciated.
As I say I pick it up today but not till around 5 Tonight as its a 7 hour trek away from
        Me in Lincoln
So setting off at 10.30 this morning
Not really too far away just going to take ages on the train and buses to get to
        Where it lives
But hopefully a fun drive home
        Rab

Fortwos are like classic Minis in that small changes make big improvements.

Curious...as Pures weren't auto from the factory. Either full auto has been added (does it have the switch on the gear lever?) or the semi-auto has been generously described to you.

Check the oil level much more frequently than you might expect to with any other car. Keep the interior dry. Be aware of Evilution and FQ101 sites - they are invaluable for maintaining a smart.

We'll the drive home was great fun one I got away from the roads in Lincoln
What on earth do they coat the roads with there? Couldn't wait to get on the motorway for a quieter ride
No it's not an auto I was told it was before I bought it but it's a semi box (better than Auto I'd say)
I spent a couple of hours washing and cleaning It today so it's looking great though I'm in danger of losing it as my wife likes how "cute" it looks lol
Though one problem I've found is the glass on the near side wing mirror fell out tonight and I can't find it now??
Can I get another glass or will I have to buy the full mirror

Well after taking a good look on Evilution I've been on Ebay and ordered a new glass and backing plate for my wing mirror
(Watch ill find the old one at the side of the road in the morning)
so that's my first fix well on the way to being sorted

Not sure how those last messages got mixed up like that but just a quickly
I did find the mirror glass and back plate this morning
And they look like they were run over by a steam roller then given a good beating with a hammer for a fortnight
