  • Longtime owner from the continent

    Hi to all,

Being new to the forum I thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm 31, I run my own company and have done so for the last 13 years (not fun of studies), I now live in geneva having grown up in paris. I'm quite handy with tools (see at the end) and used to be a web developper.

The smart was the first car I bought with my own money over 12 years ago and even though I've had other cars since, I've never resolved my self to sell it simply because in my view its the best car in the world.

Its a 2000/2001 (bought in january 2001) smart convertible passion, its dark silver with light silver tridion , blue plastics and a hand made leather interior in dark grey (leather was not an option at that time).
I wish it had heated seats and electrical mirrors but they weren't an option either.
It does have the audio kit and for a few years the CD changer has been disconnected and replaced by an ipod connection.

As of today it shows 116500 km and recently had new clutch, suspension and engine mounts. The engine drinks a little oil when cold but runs flawlessly thanks to very regular services and respect.

I've driven the car all around france (used to live in paris), going either to st tropez or mount st michel, regularly drove to geneva with it, and now I've moved to geneva so she'll probably get swiss plates soon.

It has a few issues due to lack of usage this past year because it stayed in paris for a year almost always alone after the move so I'm sorting them out. On of them is a calorstat issue that began last year causing the car to never quite get at temperature during the winter so that'll need adressing shortly. The other is stiff points during steering for which I joined this forum.

I hope she'll live for long but should she die on me, I'll probably have to resort myself to getting a new gen convertible, even though I find it a lot less fun... May have to go full brabus...

As for other cars, my dad and I have a common passion for old cars, I still run my first car, a 73 beetle convertible for which I have upgraded just about every part (brakes, suspension, interior, gearbox and engine) myself, having built a bigger engine and setup an EFI kit. She runs great and I regularly use her for travels, distance is no issue and power is plenty.
My dad runs a range rover daily (but still borrows the smart as often a possible despite calling it "not a car") and plays with a 63 Mercedes 230SL. We've got a space for those cars and all the tools we could need. Its as much about upgrading and maintaining them than driving them as much as possible.

    Pictures to follow

    Sebastien
