  • Hello

    Hi
Great to be on this forum and get info and help from fellow Smart lovers. I live in Bulgaria, so having this forum is, without a doubt, going to be a major help in keeping my lovely little Smart on the road.

Welcome from Florida, USA. I have been enjoying my '09 US spec Brabus coupe for almost five years. There is a lot of good information to be found on this site.

          Hi Mr T

Sorry for the delay in replying, I have been rather stressed over my car, again

I have a smart fortwo 450 passion. She is pink too but not so pretty in pink these days.

I have had her since january, bought second hand from the dodgiest dealer I could possibly have found, and so she has pretty much sat in the driveway since then and only goes out to visit my mechanic.

I have had to buy a new turbo for her and I am now waiting for new pistons to be sourced and then a complete rebuild is on the cards. After that, all should be good, but it has taken the shine off her for me so much.

I had a smart fortwo passion in the UK and I loved it and always wanted another one. Now I am beginning to wonder why and thinking I should have kept my gorgeous little 206 cc

Are you sure new pistons are required? Usually, a rebuild (for high oil consumption) requires only that the rings be replaced.

              Hi Thrumbleux

Not sure at all. Mechanic says new pistons and rings and a complete rebuild. He also mentioned that I have to get something called a sealent valve for the pistons????? Not sure what he means by this, but he showed me something that looked like a nut with plastic on it. Do you know what these are?

I need all the help I can get now, as mechanic cant get the parts and so I will have to order them via the internet and obviously dont want to order the wrong stuff.

Many thanks for any help you or anyone else can give me.

I'm guessing that he is talking about valve stem seals. You may find it cheaper to buy an engine rebuild kit rather than buying the parts separately. Try googling 'smart engine rebuild kit', then you can take these details to your mechanic to confirm it's what you need. Usually pistons are only required if the cylinders need re-boring, if this is the case you will need to know as you will need oversize pistons and rings. Your mechanic should also check the timing chain and oil pump and chain while it's open as these do wear.

                Cheers!

Thanks again for all your help, you have no idea how much it is appreciated, especially as I live in Bulgaria and communication with my mechanic is never easy. I shall keep you posted as to how it all goes and will have a look at the rebuild kit and take it to my mechanic today and see what he says.

                    Thankyou soooo much again
