It'll never go round corners. The understeer will be horrific. Not because of the grip, but the 2 rear axles will always be pushing it straight. All in all a load of ill thought out fvcking rubbish then.

          differentials?? sighs!!

if lorrys, transits, F1 cars, caravans, horse boxes, trailers can all cope then i'm sure this can

i'm sure 3 point turns aren't exactly a joy but don't think that makes the car "ill thought out fucxing rubbish" though

is it because its not a real smart - haha!!

            Nothing to do with diffs.
Try moving around a twin axle trailer by hand. Until you tip one axle off the ground, they're a nightmare.
Trucks raise their extra axle as soon as they can, and 8 wheelers steer 2 axles. Even trailers have steered axles. And the 6 wheel F1 had 2 steered axles. (The March never worked).
Shiny, shiny, you just love it. Give me proper engineering every time.

I loved it the moment I first saw it last year and wanted to do the same with the missus' silver ForTwo!

Just hope Smart are taking note...

How can you tell from that pic that it doesn't have 2 steered axles?

So how comes its so easy to move a twin axle caravan and a twin axle horse box then? (maybe i should try it by hand??)

i understand that it will cause some issues as the wheels are not aligned to the curve but doesn't make it ****!!

as long as you are moving forward and the turn isn't from stationary you will be ok - although wouldn't want to parallel park it!!

i love shiney shiney as well as engineering - thats why i became an aeronautical engineer

Perhaps it has passive steering in the middle axle?

If it does I hope it would be easier to reverse than a hgv trailer with passive steering.

commonly they are locked straight for reversing. If not locked it is somewhat pot luck where the rear end goes.

Even in the extremely unlikely event of it possessing such, the inherent castor will still cause it to push the nose wide. Christ, fortwos understeer badly enough with just 2 axles!

really?? mine went round corners soooo well that the yaw sensor would cause the engine to cut power - no understeer whatsoever!! did get a bit of oversteer a few times though which was scarier than going sideways in my vx220!

I think Thrumbleux may have just missed the point a tad....

Yeah, the lift-off oversteer is pretty terrifying in the Smart, but that is a reminder to not drive them too hard! On the earlier models, you can left foot brake and execute four wheel drifts. The LHD original Smart was easily the best from a handling point of view.

The VX220 is quite hard to maintain oversteer, with its skinny front tyres. They need a proper geo setup to sort them out!
