It rapidly gets expensive this cleaning business dunnit!

Any recommendations from within this little lot?

Clean Your Car is the leading UK retailer of Car Care and Car Detailing Products.

By the looks of it you also need to buy the Lime Prime stuff to put on before the wax?

        Many thanks,

          Re: Sparkly

No Lime prime is a polish I dont get on too well with it but I know people who love it. However there waxes are Fantastic and tend to last a good 3 months per application. I have a pot of their purple haze wax for my blue smarty and the results are very good and on purple/black cars the results are something else . I have the pot it for over a year and im not even through a 1/4 of the pot yet and its been used on easily 30+ vehicles

Black Smarty with 1 coat of Purple Haze Is that the level of Depth and reflection your after

Recomendations for you would probably be the Orange crush Smells amazing and really makes orange/red/yellow cars look stunning.

I have used dodo juice products after super resin polish so there is no issue there, you dont have to worry about mixing products.

There seems to be quite alot of interest in this from not just yourself what would people think if i put on a car care day down at the workshop for smarts I can (its hard to say this without sounding like teaching you to suck eggs.) Sorry for the thread hijack

          1. teach you how to wash your car safely
          2. Get the most out of your products
          3. How to wash polish and wax your car in an hour

            ooh, could be interesting....

Not that I need telling, detailing days are a good way of meeting and swaping tips on products. God, I sound like an anorak...

              Re: Sparkly

I would be interested in that too!

So it sounds like the Super Resin Polish and Orange Crush would be a good route to go down for me at the moment

How is wax applied by the way? One of these?

              Thanks again

                Re: Sparkly

Any ideas what steps I should be taking before wax application on a brand new Smart. Picking it up at the weekend and intend to get a few layers of wax on it over the next few weeks. What preparation should I give it before waxing. I'm going to wash it, apply the pre wax cleaner and then wax.

                  Re: Sparkly

David i use Foam pads rather than MF pads i find they dont pick up as much product as in the case of dodojuice the thinner you can get a layer often the better it looks there is nothing stopping you going around again and putting on a few more comically thin coats of wax after to boost up the protection but again its a personal preference thing. ARP and orange crush does sound like a Plan however hold off buying ill organise the detailing day and we can do your car on the day as i already have some orange crush. See what you think of the results before going all out and spending £45 on a tub of wax

832ark there is few things you can do personally if the car is BRAND spanking new then i would go all out on it and get a professional job done on it you have just spent out 9k on a new smart whats an extra £200 to have it for example Autoglym Lifeshined. OR if your feeling brave and have access to a Dry garage for 48 hours why not do it yourself with something like Toughseal.

I ToughSealed my Mother in laws New Fiesta about 3-4 years ago now It was really easy she could have done it but doing it gets me in the good books and away from their prattling.

This is a pic of it after i had just washed it about 2 weeks ago. first dry day with sun out to give it a clean still comes up like new

Admittedly its garaged every night and she only does about 50 miles a week in it so its really well looked after.

There is guy selling a toughseal kit on ebay for about £30 delivered he is the cheapest throws in 6 decent microfibre cloths to boot just ignore all the bullshite in the advert. You will have to wax it and you will have to reapply it after about 3-4 years not 10 like he claims but for those 3-4 years it will look great with minimal effort from yourself.

                    Re: Sparkly

Personally i'd prefer not to use some sort of sealant, I want to build up layers of wax to protect it. I'll be using Swissvax Best of Show and re waxing regularly.

Ben - That's very kind of you indeed! It would be nice to give the car a beyond-average sheen - it looks so much better when it's all sparkly!

                        Thanks again

Thats the thing to maintain a shine is really easy and with practice there is no reason why you cant wash, polish and wax a smart in an hour.

                            Re: Sparkly

i use swissol wax but anything with a decent amount of carnuba in it is good.............!!

if its a good wax you should be able to apply it with your hand

...and you should only need 1 layer of the wax and it should last about 3 months (still beading water)

invest in the swissol wax - even at £60 a pot, it will last you 4 years where 1 tub of turtle wax will only last you 1 month (as you need to apply every week)

but the 1 thing you have missed is the cleaner fluid/pre wax oil which is like a mild version of t-cut and takes off the old wax and road muck and gets the car "squeaky clean" before you apply the wax or all the buffing in the world won't matter as there is still dirt under the wax

                            JJ

                              Re: Sparkly

Any wax that is on the car will be removed when you apply polish if its not removed when you clay the car.

Also any road muck should be well and truly off the car before you go near it with anything you rub in my hand.

I don't see the point in cleaner fluid or pre-wax oils when the abrasives in the polish come into contact with the wax they will strip it off its abit of a slightly pointless step.

if the car is worth doing a full three day show prep for then yes its worth doing.

But for a standard polish and wax the benefits gained are not worth the amount of time you spend doing it.

                                how does wax remove wax??

when you clay a car, you don't do the whole car though!!

....and what polish has abrasives in???

if you say turtle wax or colour magic i may have to get my stick out

you have to take the car back to the lovely fresh paintwork so that the wax brings out the lustre in that!!
