    Re: Sparkly

Going the definition of a glaze:

    Glazes
These are polishes which contain no abrasive content Their primary function is to improve the brilliance and clarity of the paint. They may contain fillers to hide very minor imperfections (swirls) and may or may not offer any protective qualities. Glazes revitalise the look of all paint finishes through oils and "wetting agents".
I'd say that's what it is.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that!

ah - that makes things clearer (no pun intended!!)

does a glaze not do the same as a polish then but without "flatting" paintwork?

      its all so confusing!!

can we go back to talking about colour magic??

Its massively confusing, I'm going to stop spamming this thread now! Is there already a thread somewhere already on detailing where we can take this? If not lets start one!

              Re: Sparkly

Well, I used the Swissvax Best of Show today on the g/f's brand new 451 (picked up this morning) and WOW! what an amazing product. Fair enough it was shiney when we picked it up but after a wash and wax this afternoon its stunning! I'm not gonna post any pics yet as its her car and I don't want to steal her thunder but I suspect there'll be a 'new car' thread appearing soon.

              I used:

              Snow foam
              Rinse
              Shampoo with wash mitt
              Rinse
              Pat dry with microfibre cloth
              Pre wax cleaner (non abrasive)
              Wax

All wheels removed, cleaned and treated with Rimwax inside and out (really recommend this, been using for several years)
              Tyres dressed
All glass polished and Rain X'd

I didn't think it necessary as it was brand new. You think I should have done?

Being brand new, I'm afraid means nothing. With the car being transported via the factory to the dealership etc, it woulda got grubby, naturally. If it had been transported by rail, it woulda got coated in iron shavings from the rails etc.

Personally, I would of done it as part of the process.

Pics still look good though in the other thread...

Well you live and learn I guess, It'll be getting the clay treatment next time I strip the wax off.

How do they transport these? Do they have a transport wax on which is then removed by the dealer?

                        Re: Sparkly

They normally transport the mwith Big Vinyl wrap if your lucky and a thixotropic protective gel/wax on the exsposed body work. Which when the new car arrives is washed off with sponges and pressure lances then if the guys feel its necessary will then go over it with a machine polisher (I cringe at that last sentance I really do). Then its all washed more sponges and brought over to you or you go and pick it up. Its whats known as the dealer induced swirl package.

I would have personally clayed it but it wont do any harm to do it next time.

Is this likely to be soon do you think? It's lovely and summery out there now!
