... a British civil engineer called Adam Clark, in 1857.

Another amazing fact :

The square between the bridge and the tunnel is named after him and is the official point of origin of the country’s road network , with a sculptured “zero kilometre stone” in the centre.

I was only there for a short time, but seemed a very interesting city.

another interesting fact..... when walking back from the bars and lap dancing clubs - that tunnel is bloomin long, hot and the petrol fumes make your head hurt

but there is a little place at the end that opens at/till (never worked out which) about 5am ling chips and sausages

Even more amazing ...

The bridge was designed by the English engineer William Tierney Clark in 1839, with construction supervised locally by Scottish engineer Adam Clark (no relation).

The bridge was opened in 1849, and thus became the first permanent bridge in the Hungarian capital. At the time, its center span of 202 m was one of the largest in the world. The pairs of lions at each of the abutments were added in 1852. The bridge was given its current name in 1898.
