The site appears to be achingly slow today. I've tested from my laptop (an ickle EEE-PC900 over wi-fi) and a forum index page load takes:
FINISHED --21:11:25--
Downloaded: 204,504 bytes in 21 files
real 0m36.961s
user 0m0.020s
sys 0m0.016s
punkey@valpolicella:~/temp$
Hmm... that's not much of a throughput rate. I've tested the same from my big beefy server:
Downloaded: 203,388 bytes in 21 files
real 0m24.610s
user 0m0.012s
sys 0m0.016s
punkey@whirlwind ~/temp $
Slightly better, but still painfully slow.
I then tested the same from a co-located box in Telehouse with ooooodles of connectivity & bandwidth:
Downloaded: 248,556 bytes in 21 files
real 0m24.297s
user 0m0.004s
sys 0m0.008s
punkey@smoothie:~$
To put this into context, that same box can fetch...
punkey@smoothie:~$ time wget -p http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kern...-2.6.25.tar.gz
--21:39:43-- http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kern...-2.6.25.tar.gz

... at a rate of knots, peaking at 2Mbit/s.
So, I don't think the issue is isolated to 'me', as in my connection (tested via a co-lo) or my boxes (different machines using wget to rule out browser issues).
Is there a known problem? I don't wish to appear ungrateful - if I can help, then I will! [1]
