I have had the same problem, the site slowing down then grinding to a serve halt for 5 mins or so.

Tried running hardwired but still has trouble.

There is a script that has a 'memory leak' and I am trying to track it down.

The site consumes RAM until it is all gone and then the server has to flush the memory blocks so it can carry on again - a bit like an automatic reboot.

If anyone's got a dual xeon macine with a terabyte of RAM and unlimited bandwidth available then let me know, otherwise you'll just have to wait for me to find the dodgy script and fix / remove it.

I inherited the site, and there are alot of custom scripts that have not been removed or updated correctly and it's a complete buggers muddle trying to track down the cuplrit!
