  • Back Online

We are now back online after a major issue with our providers.

If anyone gets any memory or load messages please post here in this thread.
I might need to tease the new server into loving SmartManiacs

I am also rescuing someone else from the previous server, so if its slow for an hour or so from now, i know about it.
On a plus side, she has 4GB Ram!!

      Re: Back Online

I can see it on the old server, your ISP must still be updating its DNS

          Re: Back Online

Its because people managed to post on the database on the 'old' server, when it came back online just after midnight.
I had gone to bed letting the database that i recovered upload to the new server (this one), and reactivated it into this server at 0730.

The DNS is the 'MAP' as such where the internet tells the browser where to go to get to the server, so as soon as i realised we were having issues yesterday, I advised Rich to update the DNS to the new server, and put up a 'Opps' page saying having problems.
This allowed some time to get things sorted
The problem arises that DNS takes 24 hours to update globally, so it could be your ISP is in the process of updating, and that your ISP at work has updated.
I notice about 5 posts on the old server, however i have now suspended the account on the old server so people wont get problems.

Its very complex, even more so when trying to recover failed data.
The database that I had prior to this was the 16 Nov, so very lucky I got it back

The ironic thing is that im in the process of setting up a slave server to do the backups, SM was first yesterday, and it failed just before it started

                Re: Back Online

I'd have just written a cron job to do a gzipped mysql dump daily, just to make sure I had a file system backup. At least until there was a slave db server to take the backups.

using two hour intervals on a remote server, and setting up 3 hour intervals on the local server
