  • So, Headunit has decided that i dont need sound

Got an Alpine CDA-9847R head unit with ipod interface adaptor. This week it has decided that it doesn't think i need to hear music through the speakers. Quick swap out with a stereo from redperil/geezer255 and speakers are all working fine and dandy.

So, now i need to find a stereo, with ipod compatiblity, and has a pre out for my sub. budget about 100 max. any ideas?

RCA is just another name for the normal phono out socket

RCA are the people that introduced the plug/socket

thanks for that. Next question is, will my current sub that i use on the phono leads work with it? i have my eye on this and want to know if it'll work you see

If you don't have any other amps in your system apart from the subwoofer, then yes, it'll work.

yep it's spot on for it , your sub will have a (RCA ) phono plug on the end of the lead
it does say there is an option to change the pre out (full frequency range) to sub out (will just filter out the higher frequencies ), depends on the sub but I'd try it on both settings to see which sounds best.
the sub will probably have it's own higher frequencies filter

                Hi Stevie,
I'd say yes it will as it has 1 x RCA output.
(RCA is the plug type that you call Phono.)
Got to be worth a punt at that price.

Got it! Its a basic setip stereo, but my god the sound is sooo much better! I havent even connected the sub in yet as i would need to cut into the wires and solder them in place. As it is raining at the moment, I can't do that. I actually might not do it and just sell it instead, and get a couple of extra speakers in the head rest for some extra sound
