  • Sorry more audio questions....

Once again sorry for posting another audio topic but I'm a relative car audio virgin... changed a head unit in the past but thats it... so beware there are a lot of questions,

I'm looking to replace the head unit, speakers and add a sub.

Have bean looking at various head units thinking alpine... though so many 9882, 9884, 9887.... don't think i can with just the ipod as will keep wanting to change the track... or do you get over that?

    SUB is the usual choices
    blaupunkt THb 200A 79mm h
    Pioneer TS-WX11A at 80mm H
    Kenwood KSC-SW10 at 94mm H
    Alpine SWE-1000 at 114mm H

I know a few people have the alpine? does it effect the seat position as it's the deepest of them all? can you draw power from in the car via fag lighter or the SAM? or is it best to go from the battery?

then looking at speakers.... have the sound pack so want to stick with components, here's the short list....

Rainbow SLX230 - the cross over looks small and easy to mount
Infinity Kappa 50.9cs - the latest infinity that will fit...the FQ101 suggest KAPPA'S
Alpine SPR-13S - could end up having all alpine kit - would this be a benefit?

i was told you need a powerful head unit or amp to get the best out of comp.... again any advice welcome? for ease i need to use the existing cable as i have LSD, can i mount the cross overs behind the head unit?

this will really form my XMAS list...which i need to post to santa soon

Defintely a quality amp to get the best out of comps. if you get a 3 or 4 channel amp with separate front and rear channel controls you could run a "proper" passive sub also , although such would take up more space in the car.

sub feed from the battery. Make sure the fuse is on the + and close to the terminal as poss. The infinity speakers are amazing!
