  • Unlock my radio (not another one)

Yep, you've guessed it, I've locked my radio in my roadster.
Just bought the car so I thought I'd fit an IPOD lead. Unplugged the radio so I had room to work and feed through the cable. Radio now locked. Got all the service books etc with the car but the only thing missing is the radio ID card. Yes, I'm a foolish man.

Anyway, had a quick ring-round Smart (Merc) dealers as suggested on many other posts.
Smart Colindale = £25 plus VAT plus want the car, log book, drivers licence, take 48 hrs.
Smart Loughton = £25 plus VAT plus want the car, takes 48 hrs.
Smart Milton Keynes = £15 plus VAT - can do it all over the phone (Top man Barry).:dollarey:

Are dealers just plain stupid? I told them I just got the car. They should be thinking "ah, new customer, he'll need a service soon. Let's do him a favour to show how great we are so he comes to us for all his Smart needs."

    Can anyone help?
Cup of tea and a slice of cake at the ACE cafe (21 Feb) with your name on it.......

Is there not a code in with your manual somewhere?

    Else buy a proper one.

£15 is bout as cheap as your gonna get if you lost the code sheet, there is usually somewere local (often they unlock mobile phones and chip games consoles too)

That's cheaper than they charged me. Be warned, they have to phone some head office of the stereo manufacturer who then has to phone some company in Germany, who's systems are invariably 'down' so it may take a few days. Oh, and for your money, you don't get a new card, so write it down somewhere!

They don't need the car to be there! (most retarded thing I've heard this year) you will need to give them your car reg so they can obtain the VIN number, and the serial number off the stereo.

Yes, they also know very little about Smarts.

Milton Keynes are one of the best though.

We managed to chase up the old owner who kindly phoned through with the code. He forgot to put the ID card in with all the other paperwork.

But for reference, I did follow the advice and contacted Smart Hertford. Spoke with Lee (John was at lunch) who was happy to get the code for me for £10 + VAT. Top man. Will call them today to apologise and to let them know I now have the code.

IPOD cable works fine by the way. £15 + delivery off ebay.

Finally, shame on all the other Mercedes Parts depts for quoting daft prices to get the code. Namely, Loughton and Colindale. If they were "smart", they would have offered to reduce my next service by the cost of getting the code.
People just don't care about service and repeat business anymore.

I'll be heading to Hertford come service time....if the price is right of course.

Thanks for the advice folks. :thanx:

Yes try John (smartypartfast), current price is £11.50 incl vat, I am getting my code over the phone today.

You just need to give him the code on the radio, starts with MC.

Smart of Hertford's prices on accessories are great but not the prices on servicing, so I wouldnt bother.

If you want great service and good price then try Simon Light Ltd in Ware, just down the road from Hertford (prices listed on their website).
