  • Sorry, but tweeter install question

    Hi all,

Just replaced my classic mini with a 04 roadie coupe! I absolutely love it so far, so glad i bought it.

But as you all know the sound system sucks etc etc and so on.

My question must be an old one, but where has everyone mounter their tweeters? I was thinking a bit of double sided sticky tape up on the pillar near the head rest. What teh best way to route the wires up there?

In my search for a guide, poeple seem to be talking about sound packs and dash mounted tweeters.... whats a sound pack and where are these tweeters? pretty sure i don;t have any...

    Cheers in advance

    Rich

I thought the roadster already had tweeters in the dash, they're up near the dash vents. Well hidden.

Replacing the **** hu with an aftermarket one will help alot. Really as with most cars its best to rip the standard stuff out and start fresh.

cheers (liking the Grim fandango avatar by the way)

But my original post was really badly written.

I've ripped everything out, replaced the HU. About to replace the speakers with components and as i don;t seem to have any fasctory tweeters i was after some advice as to where to mount the ones that were with my components

Sounds like i should have a search around the dash though!

It shows you where the standard tweeters are installed here. http://evilution.co.uk/index.php?id=476

wicked, looks like my dumb question might have been some use after all.

That Evilution link is really useful thanks

One question though, if the roadster has built in tweeters, that mist mean there is some crossovers somewhere. Anyone know where they are and if they are worth using instead of the crossovers that come with the speakers?

Not all roadys have the tweeters - only "sound pack" cars ought to have them.

The crossover's built into the OEM head unit; when you turn "sound on" (evilution will tell you how) the main outputs are mid/woofer feeds and what would normally be the rear out is a tweeter feed.

Thanks. Hmm, i guess i don;t have the sound pack then. no great loss, with those speakers and that OEM head unit i can;t believe it actually makes the sound any good.

Okay, any reason i can't mount the tweeters where they would normally go if i had the sound pack? Is it possible to get the wires round to the back of the stereo?

You cold feed the wires down through the dash to the rear of the stereo with a wire coat hanger. Did this when I was wiring in my GPS device

I;ve got one last question if anyone is till reading this thread...

do you know if you can get hold of the tweeter mounts that usually come with the sound pack? Under the dash seems like a good place to put my new ones after all, and i'd prefer not to have to fabricate my own bracket!

                          Cheers again

Unless you get smart tweeters, you may find that aftermarket tweeters are too big to be placed there.
