451 and Forfour owners - interesting stereo info.

Last year when I discovered the Forfour double DIN radio surround fitted the 451 I also discovered that the Forfour stereo fitted the 451.



Obviously this means that the 451 stereo also fits the Forfour (handy for the Radio 5 owners who want to fit the 451 radio 10 with built in multichanger and MP3 CD ability).

I admit I kept it quiet in the hope that I could get a Forfour navigator (comand APS) nice and cheap but that simply hasn't happened so offer the information out to any interested people incase you feel the need to try.

The wiring is pretty damn close between the forfour radio 5 and the 451 radio 9 and 10. The permanent live, remote and earth are the same. The forfour doesn't have switched live and instead uses the CAN bus to operate the lighting. If you fit a 451 stereo to a forfour you could easily get a switched live from elsewhere to power it. The forfour radio 6 and navigator have strange connectors so you would need an ISO adapter.

If you fit a forfour stereo to a 451 I suspect you can attach to the standard CAN bus, it might work.

If any Forfour owners have a spare Navigator head unit, please let me know.

a radio6 unit would look lovely too - they are great!!

According to the manual, the Radio 9 also plays MP3 and WMA files, if anyone should ever want the Radio 9 instead of the Radio 10.

I would like the radio 10 as it has a built in multichanger ... Smart of York quoted me £340 just for the CD multichanger to go with my radio 6 ( never seeen any on ebay ), but i'm no techy & would have no idea how to fit it & connect it to the subwoofer / tweeters & 4 speakers

Basically the 451 and 454 share the same slot configuration for HU, so if a 454 owner wanted a Radio 10 from a 451 they could fit it with a little tweaking.

In a 454 the Radio 6 can be hooked up to a CD changer whereas the Radio 10 (451) has an inbuilt changer so a neater and probably cheaper option.

Merc has shared it's HUs with the smart range, with slight changes.

but the radio 9. does it play MP3 CD's? cos i belive iv tried mine and it hasnt worked?! and i havent got the 10 cos it only takes 1 CD LOL

im all confused now!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Page 19 of the Radio 9 user guide says it plays the, I've not tested it yet, though.

I can confirm* that my 09 CDi Radio 9 accepts MP3 cd's. I have tried andy's radio 9 in his 08 71bhp passion in the past and it doesn't work. Must have been an update!

*just made an MP3 CD on iTunes and tested it
