  • MP3 & CD Changer - is it possible?

    Hi all,
just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to have the CD Changer working alongside an MP3 player?
I have the CD Changer in the car but recently bought an MP3 cable so I've unplugged it to use the MP3 player instead. Just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to have the both of them connected at the same time, if there is maybe a split connection I can get that will let me connect both?

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers

the problem is the changer will no doubt deck the outputs when not being used (muting) , so the mp3 player would be trying to drive a (near enough) dead short. ... and vice versa.
So even if you paralleled the two devices, one would either distort or produce no audio when the other wasn't being used.
You could add some components to isolate each device's output to counteract this.

a physical switch to switch between the changer and the MP3 then?

yep a simple double pole changeover switch would do the job.

Basic idea for you non-tech person like this

You'd connect device A left and right to one side, device B left and right to the other side and get the output from the middle pair.

A more normal looking switch can be found: http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=...-8&sa=N&tab=if Ignore any of them that have been mistitled , you need a DPDT

Yep- but you got the slight hassle of switching over each time you wanna use it.

The centre contacts are the left/right output to the head unit, one side pair is the changer left/right output , the other side pair are your mp3 player left/right output.

Nice one Trouble, sounds simple enough anyway.
I'll just have to mount the switch on the dash somewhere. shouldn't be too much hassle.

Right...now I'm off to try and sort out my wheel bearings, the minor damage to the front and then the annoying sound coming from the heater blower!
Then it's on to upgrading my speakers.
