  • Becker navigation and sound upgrade?

As the very happy new owner of a 450 passion with only 15k miles and ALL the trimmings... I'm a little bit dissapointed by the Becker Navigation and Sound system. Where is the bass??
Has anyone been in the same situation that can reccomended an upgrade that is 'plug and play' (ie DIY)? maybe a bass box under the (heated) passenger seat?

You could try having a small sub installed.

You need to check if the car has the sound option.
This consists of 2 bass-bins under the dash and 2 small tweeters just below the windscreen.
If you dont have the bins, they can be retrofitted with very good improvement
      in the sound.

As BBE said, check for the bass bins under the dash speakers. If you can feel or see the speakers you don't have the bins.
Check fq101 or Evilution for fitting guides.
It's not to hard a job, i've done it twice now & it only took 1.5 hours the first time & 45 mins the second.
Also if you have to get the bins, i'd suggest contacting smartypartfast (John Porter) at Smart of Hertford, if you mention your a member on here you might get a discount.
Speakers wise the worlds your oyster. The bins take 5.25" speakers. Personally I fitted Fli speakers & think they sound great. :goodlk:

Hmm - I can see tweeter pods on top (didnt think to check if there was anything in them :censor - and I can see the standard fit speakers so I there are NO bass bins.
This will be the 'first' step along with a small underseat sub..
Taking the dash off and putting it on may 'seem' easy to some but I'd rather try and find somewhere reasonable to do it...
Will ask Smart of Hertford, 45 mins away from me, as you suggested (I have only one key so a trip to get another one will be necessary in any case).
Thank you for your advise so far.. :thanx:

You can't blame the Navigation & Sound stereo for lacking bass through the standard speaker setup. That's like unplugging all the speakers and saying the stereo is too quiet

              yep point taken.
£200 approx for the base bins (just to fit) though from smart is truly eye watering so on hold until I have the time to have a go myself...

thats because their labour rate is going to be about £100 per hour!
I'd have a go yourself anyway... you learn so much more about the car that way... and if it breaks, you only have yourself to blame

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

ok I started fiddling and ook the stereo out to see what connectors I will be need for the job as I'll be adding an under seat sub also. So far have only managed to take the Becker head unit out with the correct keys (£2.99 delivered from ebay)....now do you think I can get the keys back OUT of the head unit??!! Is there a catch of similar? I have tried and poked and squeezed but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Have searched the forum but cant find how to get the keys OUT of the stereo...
