  • DAB aerial upgrade for ForTwo

Have had a search, but can't find a definitive answer. Is anyone aware of a replacement for the standard aerial that will provide good DAB reception. I'd rather not go down th route of internal glass mount sticky aerials.

Thanks in advance for any help.

your going to either get the internal stick on ones (which you dont want) or the seperate external ones. to my knowledge DAB radios wont work with 'normal aerials. we had one in out parts van and they used the standard one for FM/MW/LW frequencies and a internal stick on one for DAB

Quite happy to replace the aerial with a new DAB specific one, but struggling to work out which would work. Looking at the existing Smart aerial, it has a 90 degree elbow on it which means the aerial sticks vertically upwards. Looking at http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/DAB_car_aerials.html it looks like all the DAB units are beesting types which I assume would point aerial away from the bodywork rather than upwards.

I could be looking at this entirely wrong, just not sure, so was hoping someone was going to point me straight at a model number that they knew worked.

      Thanks

you can get multiplexed DAB and FM Aerials, that is what I have on my Roady, the most difficult part (on the Roady) is making up a mount to simulate the smart aerial base, or you could wire up a return wire as the smart external panels obviously being plastic don't conduct eleccy very efficiently.

Not sure about the mounting on a fortwo though.

I had a Sony DAB in my car it came with a sticky aerial, and it worked really well, I only found out how well when I decided to 'upgrade' to a 'proper' external one, paid 70 quid from a reputable car audio specialist, made no difference, still dropped signal in all same places as before. Decided to refit the sticky when I got my new car and bought my JVC DVD head unit. may just be that the Sony supplied sticky is really good, bot the radio units JVC and Sony pick up very well I found. Plus you don't have to butcher your car to fit a bee sting!
