Hello!
Only just purchased my Roadster but of course, since it comes with the standard audio system, it requires urgent upgrading! I quite simply want a clearer and bassier sound. I WON'T be parking up and lifting the boot to show off my tunes though! And I don't have a budget anywhere near £1000's of pounds.
I've been reading round the forums and it seems that changing the following will make a difference:
- Changing door speakers (built-in tweeters or no?)
- Adding a compact sub to sit behind the passenger seat
- Possibly adding headrest speakers (which I've read seem to make a large difference, I'm guessing due to the fact it's right in your ears!)
- A better head unit.
There's a plethora of options of each, although I'm concerned about what technicalities I need to look out for. I understand a 150w sub for example would be ideal. Can anyone advise me here?
I'm also reading conflicting comments about whether or not to leave or upgrade the head unit??
OK and lastly, I'm a regular iPhone user and listen to all my music through the iPhone itself. In my previous 106, I had a Griffin WindowSeat...
...which allowed me to control what music I wanted to play, as well as use the built-in SatNav. To send the audio signal, I used an FM transmitter. I had to use one which was wired and powered through the cigarette lighter as something like the iTrip would not fit when using the WindowSeat. BUT! I'd much prefer to use the aux/3.5mm cable (better quality and no radio interference) which I have coming out of the back of the Roadster's Grundig head unit, or out of the back of any other unit if I upgrade. So, to minimise wiring dangling down the front of the console, is there a way I can discreetly feed the 3.5mm cable from the back of the head unit and up through the dash somehow? (The cable will then go into the headphone socket of the iPhone)
Or if anyone has any better iPhone solutions, please let me know!
Another thing, when it comes to setting it all up, it's probably best I try and at least have someone who knows what they're doing to help or do the whole thing for me. So if anyone lives locally around Swansea and has experience fitting audio systems into a Roadster, then give me a shout!
Hope this thread isn't too long, looking forward to whatever assistance you can all give!
Thanks
Dale
