450 speaker upgrade

Sorry to post another of these... I have had a hunt around the site but have failed to find anything that specifically answers my questions.

When I was looking at buying a Smart for two, I became aware that some of them came with the "stereo upgrade" which basically seems to be better speakers. My Smart doesn't have this it just seems to have a holey bit on the top left hand side of the dash.

Am I correct in thinking you can retro fit the "stereo upgrade" aka speaker upgrade and that the best place to buy the parts for this is MB?

Also, does anyone know the rough cost? And finally, is is fairly easy for an amateur to achieve?

Even the upgraded speakers in smarts are pathetic, there is a picture kicking around of an "upgraded" speaker next to a cheapish speaker from halfords or something and the difference is amazing, the smart speakers are weeny. I would say your money is better spent buying something else than smart speakers.

Hi there

You will want to buy the smart bass bins to fit inside the dash for a start:

You'll then need some suitable speakers for the bins and some suitable tweeters ... sorry I can't recommend the latest and greatest!

Finally you'll probably want to get an active subwoofer to go under the seat ...

Hope that gives you some food for thought! Taking the dash out is quite fiddly but it's rewarding to do it all yourself!

It's a shame Kane won't be updating it anymore there's been a few developments in the smart world I wouldn't mind seeing added as it would all be kept in one place, but ohwel. I ordered of smartmods yesterday and received my package today

Hey that FQ101 site is great! I like lots of pictures makes my life easier. It was also far more helpful than evilution on 450 pod fitting.

The Smart sound upgrade chip which enables the high level outputs on the standard Grundig Head unit.

This is only needed if you have the grundig cassette head unit, the grundig CD unit has it built in and is activated with a button combo

yeah that could have cost up to 30 quid or so bought at the wrong place
